Fox News conservative details Trump’s 'first unforced error' — and warns Senate against 'terrible idea'

Conservative Washington Post columnist and Donald Trump supporter Marc Thiessen on Thursday described the nomination of Matt Gaetz for attorney general as the president-elect’s “first unforced error,” — and argued there isn’t “a snowball’s chance in hell that he’s gonna get confirmed.”

Thiessen was speaking with Fox News’ Bret Baier about Trump’s controversial Cabinet appointments, including the one “getting the most reaction” — Gaetz.

Thiessen suggested he’s putting “zero chips” on Trump’s effort to convince the Senate to adjourn so he can push his Cabinet through via recess appointments.

“I’m putting zero chips on [Sen.] John Thune [R-SD] eviscerating — as his first act as majority leader — eviscerating the 'advice and consent' power of the Senate,” Thiessen said.

The Republican strategist described recess appointments as a “terrible idea — putting aside Gaetz and the wisdom of nominating Gaetz.”

“Why did that have to happen?” Thiessen wondered. “ … I don’t think Gaetz has the votes in the Senate. I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that he’s gonna get confirmed.”

The Trump supporter went on to describe Gaetz’s nomination as “Trump’s first unforced error.”
