During a White House press conference on Tuesday, June 10, President Donald Trump discussed his goals for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Trump stressed he wants governors to become less reliant on FEMA and handle disasters themselves — without the help of the federal government.

Trump told reporters, "So we want to wean off of FEMA and we want to bring it down to the state level. A little bit like education, we're moving it back to the states so the governors can handle. That's why they're governors now. If they can't handle it, they shouldn't be governor."

The "FEMA thing," Trump added, is "very expensive" and "doesn't get the job done."

Trump's comments are receiving a lot of attention on X, formerly Twitter.

Journalist Aaron Rupar tweeted, "Trump says his plan for FEMA is to give out less money and make the relief decisions himself."

Democrat Timothy Bellman posted, "Trump wants the government to work for him, not the American people.

X user Bill Johnson wrote, "So, if you bend the knee, your state gets some federal aid."

Another X user, Artie Vandelay, posted, "Red states will get more federal relief, without any question whatsoever, under such a 'plan' and those in blue states will suffer."

Democratic activist Joseph Guarino tweeted, "The simple fact is that Trump views his disaster response during his first term as an embarrassment, so his solution (as always) is to remove his responsibility for it."
