Mehdi Hasan shuts down Trump’s latest Fed claim: 'Would still be an untrue statement'

Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan shut down President Donald Trump's claim that he knows more than Federal Reserve when it comes to interest rates.

During a Thursday press conference, a reporter said to the president, "You said you think the Fed should listen to you. Can you elaborate on why you think it should?"

Trump asked, "With regards to interest rates?"

"Correct, yes," the reporter replied.

"Because I think I know interest rates better than they do," Trump said. "And I think I know it certainly much better than the one who's primarily in charge of making that decision. But, no I'm guided by them very much. But if I disagree with them I will let it be known."

Former MSNBC host Medhi Hasan responded via X, writing: "You could take out 'interest rates' from this sentence and replace it with almost any other word, phrase, or phenomenon and it would still be an untrue statement."
