Trump shakes up legal team ahead of surrender in Georgia: report

Facing four criminal indictments, former President Donald Trump is — according to New York Times, CNN and ABC News reporters — making major changes to his legal defense team.

On Thursday morning, August 24, ABC News' John Santucci reported, on X (formerly Twitter): "BREAKING — Trump shaking up GA legal team. Finding out. More to come."

Santucci was referring specifically to Trump's legal defense in Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis' case.

The New York Times' Maggie Haberman, responding to Santucci's tweet, posted, "Confirmed — hours before surrendering in GA, Trump adding to legal team and expected to make other changes."

Meanwhile, CNN's Kristen Holmes reports, on X: "Former President Trump has replaced his top GA lawyer ahead of his surrender, sources tell me. Drew Findling, the lawyer who has led Trump's defense in Georgia, is being replaced by Steven Sadow, an Atlanta based criminal defense attorney."

Holmes quotes Sadow as saying, "I have been retained to represent President Trump in the Fulton County, Georgia case. The President should never have been indicted. He is innocent of all the charges brought against him."

According to New York Times reporters Haberman, Richard Fausset and Danny Hakim, "Mr. Trump’s decision comes soon after one of his lawyers, Drew Findling, and his two other lawyers in Atlanta, Jennifer Little and Marissa Goldberg, negotiated a $200,000 bond for Mr. Trump, who is one of 19 defendants in a sweeping racketeering indictment charging them with engaging in a 'criminal enterprise' that sought to overturn Mr. Trump's 2020 election loss in Georgia. Mr. Findling is unlikely to be kept on, according to a person familiar with the matter, while Ms. Little will be retained."
