Donald Trump is urging Republicans in the Senate to block Democrats from confirming any judges ahead of President Joe Biden's exit from the White House.
The president-elect wrote via Truth Social, "The Democrats are trying to stack the Courts with Radical Left Judges on their way out the door. Republican Senators need to Show Up and Hold the Line - No more Judges confirmed before Inauguration Day!"
Semafor congressional bureau chief Burgess Everett replied via X, writing, "To be clear, with full attendance Republicans cannot block these nominees. Even if [Senator Joe] Manchin (D-WV) defects, Dems can confirm with VP [Kamala] Harris tiebreak. And [Vice President-Elect JD] Vance would probably need to be here. Still they can make it harder for Dems, as they did last night."
Noting that earlier this week, "Republicans dragged votes out for hours on the Senate floor to halt the appointment of nine federal judges," the Daily Beast reports, "The confirmation process should be made easier by the absences of key figures in the Senate— including vice president-elect JD Vance and Sen. Marco Rubio, who is Trump’s secretary of state pick."
The Hill reports that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) urged "colleagues on the Senate floor Monday to confirm as many judicial nominees as they can before the new year, which could mean weekend and Christmas recess votes for the upper chamber."
