During a Wednesday morning, September 16 appearance on Fox Business, Energy Secretary Chris Wright praised President Donald Trump's energy policy as great for U.S. consumers. But his claims are drawing some very negative reactions on social media.
When Fox Business (Fox News' sister channel) asked Wright if he was "worried" about U.S. "refineries" that "have been running for months at full tilt" and "need maintenance," he responded, "We do. And thank God we have President Trump with some common sense on energy. We're doing everything we can to help refineries expand their capacity. President Trump is aggressively deploying the U.S. military to offset the pipeline flows, for example, with increased Hormuz flows. So, there's a lot of things we can do."
The interview came roughly six and one-half months after Trump launched a war against Iran that has led to blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, a Middle Eastern waterway crucial to the flow of oil in that part of the world. And there was a detailed exchange on Trump, the war and energy prices during the conversation.
When Wright was asked by Fox Business when energy prices might come down, he responded, "I certainly can't predict Iranian behavior."
The host tried to pin him down on energy prices, but he had no specifics. And Wright responded by trying to blame the Biden administration — saying, "We can't unwind all the Democrat damage immediately."
It didn't take long for responses to the interview to appear on X, formerly Twitter.
Joe Walsh, a former GOP congressman who is now an outspoken Never Trump conservative, tweeted, "What does Chris Wright say to himself when he's all alone? Does he admit to himself that he's sold his soul?"
Journalist Aaron Rupar, tweeting video of the interview, wrote, "Chris Wright on Fox Business says 'thank God we have President Trump with some common sense on energy' as a graphic is displayed showing diesel prices at record highs."
Liberal William Moen, who runs the Lineal Championship Database, commented, "I mean ... it's common sense for Oil companies and billionaires."
Journalist Nancy Levine Stearns wrote, "Is America great yet, Energy Secretary Chris Wright? The trick to lowering gas prices is driving less, US energy secretary says."
Bronx-based teacher Peter Zucker noted, "I saw diesel for over $6 in White Plains NY yesterday."
X user Sandy Eggo commented, "Good thing trump RICO enterprise is helping the American people and not self-enriching corruption. Right?"
