Trump called Pelosi to ask if they could ‘work something out’ on impeachment: report

After months of being the Democratic Party’s most prominent impeachment skeptic, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — in response to the Ukraine scandal — has come out in favor of an impeachment inquiry. And the House speaker revealed that President Donald Trump called her to ask if they could “work something out.” But Pelosi is adamant that an impeachment inquiry should go forward.

On MSNBC’s “The Beat With Ari Melber” on Tuesday, Heidi Przybyla reported, “The president actually said to Nancy Pelosi, ‘Hey, can we do something about this whistleblower complaint? Can we work something out?’ And she said, ‘Yes, you can tell your people to obey the law.’”

Przybyla explained Pelosi’s perspective — saying that this “is not just a case of a president asking a foreign country to dig up dirt on a political opponent, but to actually manufacture evidence against him because the Ukrainians have already disputed these charges at the highest level.”

The political opponent is, of course, Vice President Joe Biden. Pelosi changed her mind about impeachment after reports that Trump tried to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Przybyla said that Pelosi made it clear to Trump that it is “full steam ahead” with an impeachment inquiry.
