Although a White House press conference late Thursday morning, May 8 was mainly focused on a new trade deal with the U.K., U.S. President Donald Trump went off on some tangents — including an attack on former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Trump told reporters that Buttigieg "has no clue," adding, "You know, he drives to work on his bicycle with his, in all fairness, with his husband on the back — which is a nice, loving relationship. But he didn't have a clue. This guy didn't have a clue. And he's actually a contender for president. Between him and Crockett, you can have that party."
Trump was presumably referring to progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), a scathing critic of the U.S. president.

Trump's attack on Buttigieg is drawing plenty of biting responses on X, formerly Twitter.
X user Kim Moore argued that Trump was trying to draw attention away from the flight delays at Newark Airport and downsizing of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Moore posted, "So, you ask yourself, why would Trump do such a horrible thing by defaming Buttigieg. Simple, he needs MAGA to believe Buttigieg is to blame for the problems with the current airport delays & it has nothing to do with the FAA staff cuts that he made!"
Singer/songwriter Nikos Unity argued, "Trump attacked a gay man for riding a bike because policy isn’t his strong suit, but cruelty always is."

X user Denison Barb tweeted, "At least Pete Buttigieg doesn't have to pay his spouse to love him."
Another X user, Russell Drew, posted, "Donald Trump mocks Pete Buttigieg for biking to work with his husband, dripping with casual, ferocious homophobia — and the press just sits there. No gasps. No pushback. Just normalization of cruelty. He is a vile, broken man, and it’s exhausting watching people shrug it off.
Democratic activist Jamie Jenson wrote, "Better a bicycle that requires exertion, improves one's health and fitness, and is better for the environment, than a high-powered golf cart that does nothing but help him race ahead to CHEAT at golf shots/putts when no one is looking. Fact. Testimonials from his former caddies."
