Trump’s flurry of 'nonsense' court motions is 'burning through a mountain of cash'

Donald Trump has had his legal team pumping out a myriad of legal filings that have not only failed to delay his so-called "hush money" trial but have also, combined with trials he's facing in other jurisdictions, burned through an extraordinary amount of cash.

Despite a multitude of attempts to get Judge Juan Merchan to delay the trial where the former president is facing 34 counts of first-degree falsifying business records, it will proceed on Monday and all Trump has to show for his efforts is a stack of legal bills.

According to MSNBC analyst Hayes Brown, key Trump lawyers are raking in big bucks as they fight to keep the former president not only out of jail but also out of the courtroom.

In his column for MSNBC, Brown admitted the legal fees likely don't keep the former president up at night since they are being paid with PAC money and donations from his fanatical fans.

Nonetheless, all this lawyering and filing of "nonsense" motions come at a high price.

"The flurry of paperwork that’s been filed in the past few weeks helps illuminate how Trump is managing to burn through a mountain of cash. Lawyering is expensive work, and the phalanx of attorneys Trump has drafting briefs and arguing before the bench doesn’t come cheap," he wrote before adding, "The absurdly high amount Trump has been spending on legal fees really begins to make sense when you consider just how many hours are going into preparing this mountain of pretrial filings. Much of the spending has gone through Trump’s Save America political action committee, which has been siphoning off funds from campaign donations and from a joint fund controlled by the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee."

Noting that Trump has burned through over $100 million in legal fees since reluctantly leaving office, Brown notes that a recent report suggested the former president spent $5.6 million this past February — or approximately $230,000 per day.

"Every dollar doled out that helped delay this first trial has been more time that he’s been able to avoid accountability in the subsequent ones," he added. "It’s hard to picture how much more he’ll spend between now and November — but given that the vast majority of it seems not to be coming from his own pocket, it’s no wonder it’s a price he’s very willing to pay."
