'Angry' Trump Q&A was 'like watching a baby crawl across the interstate at night': conservative

Former GOP consultant Stuart Stevens, on the latest episode of MSNBC's All In With Chris Hayes, described how difficult it was to watch former President Donald Trump struggle through a Q&A with reporters during the National Association of Black Journalists convention Wednesday.

The former president was combative against the three Black women interviewing him, directly insulting the well-respected journalists by calling their questions "horrible," and refusing to take accountability for previous derogatory comments he's made about Black people.

Speaking with guest host and former RNC Chair Michael Steele, Stevens said, "I think what's different about this than flashing back to 2016 where you're just throwing up Trump rallies [is] he's on stage with three journalists who are challenging him, who are asking him tough questions. Trump — he does not like women. He is terrified of black women. He sees much of what has happened to him as a result of Black women, and he refuses to take responsibility for anything."

The Lincoln Project senior adviser continued, "If you were working for the Donald Trump campaign, when you were watching this, it was like watching a baby crawl across the interstate at night. You couldn't look! And they could not get him off that stage fast enough. And this was a long campaign. You can't hide Donald Trump."

Stevens — a "Never Trump-er" — added, "I've seen this before with campaigns. When a candidate thinks they are going to win, and that gets pulled back from them, that can be a devastating moment for them. And very few candidates have the emotional maturity to deal with that well, and they have to adjust and come back. I don't think Donald Trump has the ability to adjust here. I think this is the angry Donald Trump — embittered, 'you owe me', 'I already am president of the United States, people just don't realize it.'"

"And I think it's extraordinarily unattractive to most Americans," Stevens emphasized.
