Trump dials up the panic as judge closes in on his Jan. 6 records

New transcriptions from President Donald Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against BBC reveal how dangerously close the president is to having potentially hurtful information about his January 6 antics made public.

The BBC has already admitted the piece incorrectly claimed Trump “made a direct call for violent action” during the January 6 riots. But the tax-funded company, which must be a good steward of British funding, is contesting the $10 billion that Trump is demanding.

Additionally, new transcripts received by Law & Crime reports the judge over the case appears to be completely prepared to make Trump hand it over some potentially damning information.

“The transcript of the proceedings revealed that [Chief U.S. District Judge James] Boasberg thought the BBC ‘made convincing arguments’ and has a ‘decent chance’ of getting what it seeks if those documents turn out to be ‘necessary,’” Law and Crime reports.

To buttress its defense, BBC lawyer Maxwell Mishkin is leaning on the hard work of investigators who came before him. He have asked Boasberg to unseal to the "greatest extent possible" various executive privilege rulings that went against Trump during special counsel Jack Smith's grand jury probe.

The BBC’s biggest targets appear to be six of Trump’s most intimate witnesses and getting them under oath. This includes Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., former White House lawyers Eric Herschmann and Pat Cipollone. BBC lawyers also want to have an under-oath conversation with former Vice President Mike Pence’s counsel Greg Jacob and Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aid to White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who testified she saw Meadows burning documents in the White House fireplace.

Mishkin added that the BBC has "been unable to serve" subpoenas on Trump's eldest son and daughter.

“To turn the tables on Trump's lawsuit, the BBC has sought discovery that it anticipates will show Trump can't ‘prove that he did not foment or incite the January 6 Capitol riot’” reports Law and Crime, and he can't recycle "already-rejected privilege claims."

And Boasberg signaled he was already game for handing it all over, but was waiting for the executive privilege issue to be "crystallized" in a Florida court.

"And I think there's a decent chance you do [get these opinions and orders] because I think you've made convincing arguments, but it's got to be teed up properly," Boasberg said. “… I think you have made a solid case for such release if they are necessary."

Boasberg added that the "standard requires a need to avoid a possible injustice in another judicial proceeding."
