Trump asked British Prime Minister Johnson to help him discredit Mueller’s report and the Russia investigation

President Donald Trump is even more unpopular among the general public in Europe than he is in Democratic areas of the United States. But that didn’t stop him from trying to get British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to help him discredit the Mueller Report and the Russia investigation when they spoke over the summer.

Trump, Times of London is reporting, called Johnson in July to ask him for help in obtaining information he hoped would discredit former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Mueller concluded that although the 2016 Trump campaign’s interactions with Russians —however questionable — didn’t rise to the level of a full-fledged criminal conspiracy, there is no question that the Russian government aggressively interfered in that election and will try to interfere in the 2020 election as well.

Trump’s conversation with Johnson, according to the Times of London, is said to have occurred on July 26 — which in only one day after his now-infamous conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump is now facing an impeachment inquiry in the U.S. House of Representatives for, according to a rough transcript of that July 25 conversation, trying to pressure the Ukrainian leader into digging up dirt on a political rival — former Vice President Joe Biden — as well as his son Hunter Biden.

The Times of London notes that Trump has also spoken to Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in the hope of getting some help in discrediting the Russia probe and the Mueller Report. And Italian officials have confirmed that Trump called them to discuss Mueller’s investigation.

Johnson became prime minister after former Prime Minister Theresa May, a fellow member of the Conservative Party, resigned earlier this year because of a series of major Brexit defeats.
