Ex-Republican cautions reporter against accepting Trump’s 'false corrupting premise'

One week after his Manhattan conviction on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records, former President Donald Trump is holding a "town hall style event" in north Phoenix, Arizona, which Arizona Republic reports is his first appearance in the state since 2022.

ABC15 Arizona politics reporter Rachel Louise Just interviewed the former president at the event, and then shared a portion of her conversation with the MAGAG hopeful via X (formerly Twitter).

"Former president Donald Trump spoke exclusively to @abc15 in his first local interview since his historic conviction," Just wrote. "I asked if he would arrest and jail his political opponents, including NY DA Alvin Bragg: "'Would we do it?' - I'll talk to you in about three years from now."

The ABC15 reporter added, "When pushed on if he would try to prosecute Bragg, Trump answered: 'We're gonna see what happens. I'm not gonna say anything one way or the other. We're gonna see what happens.'"

Bulwark Podcast host and MSNBC analyst Tim Miller replied, "All respect to this questioner but PRESIDENTS CANT JAIL THEIR OPPONENTS. Biden didn’t convinct him. He couldn’t jail anyone (unless he tried to do it extrajudicially) These questions to Trump accept his false corrupting premise."

Suggesting that he does plan to go after his political opponents through the justice system during an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity earlier this week, the ex-president said, "When this election is over, based on what they’ve done, I would have every right to go after them, and it would be easy because it’s Joe Biden."

CNN noted that during a Tuesday interview with Newsmax Tuesday, Trump said, "It’s a terrible, terrible path that they’re leading us to, and it’s very possible that it’s going to have to happen to them."
