Trump’s Transportation Dept. will be an 'anti-regulation' nightmare: analysis

On Monday, November 18, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Fox Business host and former Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wisconsin) was his pick to head the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Duffy, if confirmed by the U.S. Senate in January 2025, would replace Democratic Pete Buttigieg — transportation secretary under outgoing President Joe Biden.

Duffy, from a policy standpoint, would be a major departure from Buttigieg.

The New Republic's Malcolm Ferguson, in an article published on November 18, argues that the U.S. Department of Transportation will be an "anti-regulation" nightmare under the second Trump Administration.

Ferguson laments, "The Trump transition team continues to float wildly unqualified people to serve in very important positions."

Duffy, according to Ferguson, is a perfect example of "unqualified" — along with others Trump has his mind for his second administration.

"These picks all align with Trump's bleak pro-business, anti-regulation vision for the Department of Transportation," Ferguson warns. "Enjoy your walkable cities and decent public transportation — if you even have it — while you can."
