Walz’s pro-Trump brother drops public criticism — thanks to family invention

Although Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate in the 2024 presidential race, his older brother, 67-year-old Jeff Walz, is a Donald Trump supporter who has made it clear that he won't be voting for the Harris-Walz ticket. The Trump campaign would love to get an official endorsement from the older Walz brother, but according to the Daily Beast's Mary Ann Akers, Jeff Walz has agreed to stop criticizing the Minnesota governor publicly — thanks to their sister Cathy Walz Dietrich.

The Walz' siblings' 89-year-old mother Darlene Walz, Akers reports, "said her daughter, Cathy Dietrich, approached Jeff Walz (who now lives in the Florida Panhandle) to tone down his divisive attacks on their brother."

According to Akers, "Whatever she said to her brother seemed to worked, because on Tuesday, (September 4), he walked back his online diatribe against Gov. Walz, telling 'NewsNation on Tuesday' that while he doesn't agree with his brother's political views, he would not seek to influence the outcome of the election."

"There is going to be no further statements to anybody," Jeff Walz told that outlet, "and we're not campaigning or anything, for him or against him or anything like that."

Darlene Walz, who is supporting the Harris-Walz ticket, said she has tried to remain neutral in the tensions between her sons.

The mother told the Beast, "I want to keep peace…. I think the best thing maybe, for me, is to just stay out of it."

Darlene Walz described Cathy Walz Dietrich as a "diehard Democrat" and said of political tensions within her family, "Maybe somewhere down the line, we're hoping it will be resolved in a better situation."
