When Democrats held their 2020 convention, they made a point of featuring some conservative Republicans who opposed then-President Donald Trump's reelection campaign — including former Ohio governor John Kasich.
Now, four years later at their 2024 convention, Democrats' lineup of Republican speakers, according to CNN, includes former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois), Olivia Troye (a former national security aide to ex-Vice President Mike Pence), former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, and Mesa, Arizona Mayor John Giles. And according to NBC News, Stephanie Grisham — former press secretary to the Trump White House as well as former First Lady Melania Trump — will be speaking.
Grisham told NBC News, "I never thought I'd be speaking at a Democratic convention. But, after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out…. While I don't agree with Vice President Harris on everything, I am proud to be supporting her because I know she will defend our freedoms and represent our nation with honesty and integrity."

Grisham, in recent months, has had a lot to say about the reasons she went from being a Trump World insider to being an outspoken critic. During a "This American Life" segment aired on some National Public Radio (NPR) affiliates in early June, Grisham revealed that she has been seriously looking into other countries to possibly move to if Trump wins in November — as she would seriously fear retaliation during a second Trump Administration.
Giles told CNN, "I've been a Republican all my life. But since Donald Trump refused to accept the results of the 2020 election, the Republican Party has spiraled further and further into political extremism."
CNN's Edward-Isaac Dovere reports that former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) — another scathing Trump critic on the right — "is not expected to speak" at the 2024 Democratic National convention, adding that former President George W. Bush "has been critical of Trump in private but has also not spoken publicly about how he'll vote."
Austin Weatherford of Republicans for Harris — a group of conservatives who supported former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the 2024 GOP presidential primary but are now backing Democratic nominee Kamala Harris — told CNN, "We will be putting patriotic Republicans front and center in our convention programming to explain, in their own words, why they are putting country first and supporting Vice President Harris."
