Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas) said Tuesday the GOP's messaging on the government shutdown "is starting to get old."
According to MSNBC reporter Mychael Schnell, Van Duyne demanded the House be returned to session during the GOP conference call on Monday.
"I think the longer that we are out, the messaging is starting to get old," she told her colleagues, per the reporter.
The Texas Republican reportedly added she wants to be on the floor passing bills and it would be "a much stronger showing" if the Republicans were doing that.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on the call he would continue to "evaluate" the situation.
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans gathered at the White House on Tuesday to project solidarity with President Donald Trump as they stand firm against any Democratic conditions to end the shutdown.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) dismissed the gathering as a “pep rally” and decried it as “shameful” that Johnson has kept the House out of town during the shutdown.
Schumer insists his camp is ready to end the shutdown and tackle the health‑care premium crisis that “looms over 20 million hardworking Americans.”
The shutdown of the federal government began on October 1, after Congress failed to pass funding for the new fiscal year. As of now, the impasse has entered its fourth week, making this one of the longest shutdowns in U.S. history with no clear end in sight.
