After fleeing Texas to voice their opposition to the GOP gerrymandering/redistricting scheme being aggressively pushed by Gov. Greg Abbott and President Donald Trump, Democrats in the Texas State Legislature returned to work on Monday, August 18.

One of them was State Rep. Nicole Collier, who according to People For the American Way, wasn't being allowed to leave by GOP state lawmakers.

On X, formerly Twitter, People For the America Way reported, "Texas Republicans have locked Democratic Rep. Nicole Collier inside the state house chamber and refuse to allow her to leave. They are requiring Democrats to sign 'permission slips; and have a police escort in order to leave the chamber, and she refuses to sign it."

The Texas Democrats were being locked in the chamber, Chron.com reported, for defying the "permission slip" rule.

The rule is receiving a lot of discussion on X.

X user Colin Gubbins tweeted, "So they’ve kidnapped her?"

Boss Global Radio commented, "Elected officials held captive by their opponents — that's authoritarianism, not governance."

GalaxyTrail's Gabriella Nell Creighton posted, "This is literally unconstitutional."
