'Tensions' rise in DeSantis’ circle as emerging Florida group plans Iowa takeover: report

A new nonprofit backing governor and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis plans to unleash a "flurry of ads" in Iowa beginning on Thanksgiving in possible efforts to outshine rival candidate and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, the New York Times reports.

Per the report, the Florida-based group named Fight Right Inc. may have formed with the goal to "fulfill the strategic wishes of donors," but the reason for its launch remains "unclear."

However, the Times notes super PACs backing both DeSantis and Haley "have spent millions of dollars in recent weeks attacking one another."

Still, the Times calls the formation of Fight Right "unusual" due to DeSantis' close relationship to Never Back Down, the super PAC that raised $48 million for the GOP hopeful's campaign earlier this year, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Several top GOP mega donors expressed dissatisfaction with Never Back Down' work earlier this year and "tensions" among the super PAC and the governor's campaign have risen as a result of disagreements over "strategy."

Fight Right Inc., which is led by three attorneys close to DeSantis, dropped $700,000 on reserved airtime for ads just two months ahead of the Iowa causes.
