On Friday, June 6, the news was dominated by President Donald Trump's bitter feud with Elon Musk, who formerly headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and helped orchestrate the Trump Administration's mass layoffs of federal government workers.
But a week earlier—before their relationship went sour — Trump held a White House event thanking Musk for his work with DOGE.
Some pundits are wondering if Democrats should work with Musk now that he is on the outs with Trump, but veteran conservative strategist vehemently pushed back against that idea during a June 6 appearance on MSNBC.

The Never Trump conservative told MSNBC host Chris Jansing, "I don't think anybody wants to be near Elon Musk. I mean, 48 hours ago, he was one of the most toxic figures in American life. He had some support among MAGA and Trump diehards. He's lost that…. Elon Musk was basically accusing Donald Trump of being a pedophile."
Stevens added, "These are the people that are making these key decisions about America's future?.... It's just a completely dark chapter."
Stevens also voiced concerns about the access Musk and his team were given to sensitive federal government data during his work with DOGE.
"If I was Democrats here," Stevens told Jansing, "I would just raise utter holy hell about this. Clearly, we should take steps to nationalize, under the Defense Procurement Act, Starlink and SpaceX. I mean, this guy is a national security threat of the highest order. And Democrats should feast on this and take it very seriously."
