Trump losing ground with military voters and gun owners in North Carolina: shock poll

Former Vice President Joe Biden has been slamming President Donald Trump as anti-military, and a new poll indicates that in North Carolina — a swing state that has 15 electoral votes — Biden's line of attack might be working. The poll, conducted by television station WRAL, finds that Trump is losing ground among military households as well as among gun owners.

Among military households, according to WRAL's poll, Biden now leads Trump by 1% — which is a big change from a WRAL poll that found Trump with a 15% lead among military households in North Carolina in September. And among North Carolina voters in general, WRAL News found that Biden is leading Trump by 5%.

Previously, according to WRAL, Trump had a 36% lead among gun owners in North Carolina. Now, that lead is down to 8%.

WRAL also notes that Trump's "17-point lead among men is down to two points, 49-47%. The swing is even more dramatic among suburban men, where the president lost a 26-point lead and now trails Biden 49-44%." In addition, WRAL found that in North Carolina, "Biden now leads 52-45% among working-class voters, compared with a three-point Trump lead a month ago."

A Monmouth poll released on October 13 found Trump trailing Biden by 3% in North Carolina, which Trump won by 3% in 2016.

North Carolina is also where polls have found incumbent GOP Sen. Thom Tillis trailing his Democratic challenger, Cal Cunningham, by single digits. Republicans are concerned that if Biden wins in North Carolina, there could be a down-ballot effect that results in a Cunningham win as well.
