MAGA superintendent’s mandatory Trump prayer video is against the law: report

Oklahoma school superintendent of Education Ryan Walters was met with pushback from the state attorneys general office in the GOP leader's efforts to force students to watch a video of him praying for Donald Trump, The Daily Beast reports.

Regarding Walters' "Prayer for the Nation" video, in which he "lashed out at teacher's unions," according to the Beast, "several school districts said they wouldn’t be playing his bizarre video, and they were in the right, the Oklahoma attorney general’s office said."

Oklahoma Voice reported, "In the video, which is posted on the Education Department’s YouTube page, Walters prays for Trump and his presidential administration 'as they continue to bring about change to the country.'"

AG spokesperson Phil Bacharach told the publication, "Not only is this edict unenforceable, it is contrary to parents’ rights, local control and individual free-exercise rights."

The Beast reports that although Trump has announced a slew of nominations for his second term, the president-elect "has yet to name his choice for Secretary of Education." The report notes that the GOP leader's "unabashed Trump flattery have led some to suggest he’s aiming for the post," as "both men want to eliminate the Department of Education."

Walters said in an email last week that not only are students "required" to watch the video, but parents as well.
