Embattled Giuliani 'without any local lawyers' in Georgia after 2nd attorney files motion to withdraw

Once a federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is now facing a variety of legal problems. Giuliani is a co-defendant in Fulton County, Geogia District Attorney Fani Willis' racketeering case against former President Donald Trump, and he is facing various civil lawsuits as well — some from attorneys who allege that he has failed to pay money he owes them.

According to ABC News' Olivia Rubin, sources say another lawyer is asking to leave Giuliani's legal team in Georgia. If this goes through, Rubin reports, it would "appear to" leave Giuliani "without any local lawyers in the state."

"A motion to withdraw has been submitted to the clerk, the sources said," Rubin explains. "A judge in the case has to sign off on the motion…. News of the move comes after several other former attorneys of the Trump ally have sued Giuliani for failure to pay his bills, including his longtime friend and attorney Bob Costello, who sued Giuliani for over $1 million in payments due to his firm."

Rubin continues, "Earlier, an additional lawyer for Giuliani in Georgia, David Wolfe, submitted his own motion to withdraw from his representation of Giuliani."

The ABC News journalist also reports, however, that "sources close to Giuliani say the former mayor is close to retaining new local representation."

Giuliani, a speaker at Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021, is among the pro-Trump lawyers who promoted the false and repeatedly debunked claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump. Other attorneys indicted as co-defendants in Willis' case include Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, John C. Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro.
