'Spineless' Rubio blasted for demand Zelensky apologize to Trump following CNN interview

Marco Rubio facing major disadvantage in meeting with high-ranking Russian official: retired Army general
After U.S. President Donald Trump angrily berated visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a televised Friday, February 28 meeting in the White House, hawkish neocon John Bolton urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to resign from the second Trump Administration. Bolton, who served as national security adviser during Trump's first administration but is now a scathing critic of the president, told MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace that if Rubio wants to save his reputation, he needs to distance himself from "disgraceful" Trump immediately.
But instead, Rubio defended Trump and attacked Zelensky during an interview with CNN's Kaitlin Collins. When Collins asked Rubio why he wanted Zelensky to apologize to Trump, the former Florida senator responded, "Well, apologize for turning this thing into the fiasco for him that it became. There was no need for him to go in there and become antagonistic."
That interview is receiving plenty of reactions on X, formerly Twitter — some of them highly critical of Rubio for casting Zelensky as the "antagonistic" one during the contentious meeting.

Journalist Richard Ernsberger tweeted, "If you want to hear some sniveling, cowardly, spineless b-----t about today's meeting between Zelensky and #TraitorTrump, listen to @MarcoRubio tonight. Rubio — a longtime opponent of Putin — is now betraying his own longtime viewpoint to hang onto his powerless job."
Political strategist/writer Tom Tevlin remarked, "#Vance may be the devil, #Trump a complete nut. But reserve your greatest disdain for the once-sanctimonious lickspittle Sen. #Rubio, who threw #Zelenskyy out of the White House to help his boss curry favour with #Putin."
Michael McFaul, a Stanford University political science professor, argued, "Team Trump has told Ukraine that they have to give up territory to Russia. Zelenskyy should thank them for that?.... Trump has told Ukraine that they cannot join NATO. Zelenskyy should thank them for that?"
X user Timothy Bellman wrote, "JD Vance is the one that turned it into a fiasco. Zelensky is standing up for freedom."

English Speaking Board's Damian Low noted a previous claim by Rubio, commenting, "'America will speak clearly about Vladimir Putin. He and his cronies will be the target of US financial pressure.' How times change Marco."
X user Albee Fine tweeted, "Wrong answer MAGA RUBIO. YOU are a disgrace."
Writer Vasilina Orlova commented, "So Zelenskyy is to blame Putin invaded Ukraine, and also Zelenskyy is to blame that you psychopaths prepared JD Vance to attack him like a rabid dog?"
Montreal-based feminist Claudia Ottaviano posted, "Rubio, Trump & Vance need to understand that if you want diplomacy, you don't call Zelenskyy a butcher & a dictator, and you don't lie about Ukraine starting the war. It's time the USA learns what real diplomacy is."
