'Play Trump’s game': How prospective RNC hires are being screened for 2024

Politico's Sam Stein has used the word "bloodbath" to describe the purge that has been taking place at the Republican National Committee (RNC) under the new ultra-MAGA leadership of Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chair Lara Trump.

2024 GOP nominee Donald Trump's daughter-in-law has made it abundantly clear that putting him back in the White House is the RNC's #1 goal, and she has been making a concerted effort to purge the organization of non-MAGA conservatives.

The mass firings at the RNC mean that replacements will need to be hired. In an article published on March 26, the Washington Post's Josh Dawsey details the screening process for applicants — which includes one's views on the Big Lie.

"Those seeking employment at the Republican National Committee after a Trump-backed purge of the Committee this month have been asked in job interviews if they believe the 2020 election was stolen, according to people familiar with the interviews, making the false claim a litmus test of sorts for hiring," Dawsey reports. "In recent days, Trump advisers have quizzed multiple employees who had worked in key 2024 states about their views on the last presidential election, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private interviews and discussions."

Dawsey adds, "The interviews have been conducted mostly virtually, as the prospective future employees are based in key swing states."

One "prospective" RNC employee, according to Dawsey, was specifically asked, "Was the 2020 election stolen?" And a former RNC staffer told the Post, "If you say the election wasn't stolen, do you really think you’re going to get hired?"

GOP strategist and former RNC Communications Director Doug Heye notes that RNC staffers are expected to "back the candidate up" during presidential elections and "go along with the worldview."

However, Heye told the Post, "The problem with Trumpism is that despite bringing in very smart and very capable people, if you want to play Trump's game, you have to back him up on everything he says. Claims about the election being stolen is kind of the last frontier of that."
