Marianne Williamson’s new campaign manager was once 'accused of financial fraud': report

A lot could happen between now and next year, but so far, the 2024 presidential race is shaping up to a rematch between incumbent President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

Although Trump has at least nine Republican challengers, he remains the clear GOP frontrunner. And Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — hailed by right-wing firebrand author Ann Coulter and other supporters as the GOP's best chance to move on from Trump — has yet to inflict any real damage on Trump's campaign. A Morning Consult poll released on June 6 showed Trump leading DeSantis by 34 percent among GOP primary voters.

Biden, meanwhile, has two Democratic primary challengers: anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and new age self-help guru Marianne Williamson. Most of the Democratic Party, however, has been rallying around Biden's reelection campaign, from liberals and progressives to centrists. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, has endorsed Biden and offered to do anything he can to help him win a second term.

In an article published by Politico on June 8, journalist Brittany Gibson emphasizes that Williamson's presidential campaign has been full of chaos and staff turnovers. Williamson has hired a new campaign manager: Roza Calderon, who, Gibson reports, "was accused of financial fraud by a local Democratic Party group in 2017, according to local reporting and an interview with the head of a Democratic group in Placer County, California."

"A police report filed by the group alleged that Calderon spent nearly $1900 from the Placer Women Democrats' bank account on a host of personal expenses," according to Gibson. "The group's then-treasurer, Sharleen Finn, filed the police complaint against Calderon. Finn then alleged that Calderon deleted internal financial documents to cover up her alleged fraud."

Calderon declined an interview request from Politico. But Kathleen Crawford, who chairs the Placer County Democratic Central Committee, told the publication, "I'm hoping that Roza has learned lessons, and she has a professional accounting firm and has learned the rules."
