'We can get them further down': Dem strategist explains how to 'demoralize' Republicans

Democratic strategist James Carville announced on his “Politics War Room” podcast that Republicans are not just demoralized but missing in action in mid-term races. And this, he said, spells big trouble for President Donald Trump.

“This thing that happened last night in Virginia has got their f—— attention, I can assure you," said Carville, speaking of the special election that catapulted Democrat James Walkinshaw to a U.S. House seat over Republican Stewart Whitson, a former FBI agent and Army veteran.

WTOP News reports Whitson won a crowded GOP primary after aligning himself with President Donald Trump, as well as his immigration crackdown and DOGE-style government cuts.

“It wasn’t just a ‘win’. It was a 75-to-25 win,” said Carville, “but according to Cook [Political Report], [the district] was +18 D, maybe a little more. It traditionally comes in at 62-38 for the governor’s race and presidential race.”

“The Republicans are not voting,” Carville said, “and anything we can do to demoralize them is really good politics, and we’re seeing that in special election after special election and special election. You can say the Democrats are just agitated and coming out, but I think the Republicans are just as big a part of this story — and that’s they’re down and we can get them further down.”

Carville and co-host Al Hunt went on to disembowel the Republican-dominated U.S. Supreme Court for legalizing racial profiling. Carville cited the court’s recent by a 6-3 vote overturning a lower court decision barring ICE agents from targeting people based upon their location, the work they do, their language or accent and the color of their skin. The majority offered no explanationfor its decision, but Justice Brett Kavanaugh said a person’s ethnicity can be enough to provide “reasonable suspicion” that they are in the country illegally.

“Anybody that’s not white, you can now just stop them without probable cause, without reason,” Carville said. “I don’t know where in the Constitution it says your skin color is probable cause. The law around what constitutes probable cause or not is very extensive. It’s an extensive body of law and they just threw it all out. They said, ‘f—— it.’”

“Kavanaugh claims it was just one of the factors, but that’s b——,” said Hunt. “They knew exactly what they were doing and Kavanaugh said ‘Fine. Go ahead.’”

“They take a case where they’re stopping people and instead of saying ‘let’s go back and study the law, maybe modify it a little bit, look at the legislative history,’ they say ‘Trump wants to stop anybody he wants based on skin. Okay, fine. Do it. Put troops in the street. We don’t care. Stop who you want.’” Carville added.
