Busted: Ramaswamy's claim his campaign vehicle was attacked by protesters debunked by the cops

When GOP presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy was in Iowa on Thursday afternoon, October 5, his campaign's vehicle was hit by another motorist. The Ramaswamy campaign, according to the Des Moines Register, claimed that their vehicle had been rammed by protesters in the town of Grinnell.

But Grinnell police investigated the incident and found that it was merely an accident. The woman who accidently backed into the Ramaswamy campaign's vehicle, police say, was unconnected to a pro-Ukraine protest that took place in Grinnell.

The Grinnell Police Department, on October 5, issued a statement saying their "investigation has revealed no evidence to substantiate" the Ramaswamy campaign's claim that their vehicle was attacked by protesters.

According to the statement, "(The driver) stated she was not in the area to protest, she did not know who the vehicle she struck belonged to, she did not intentionally back into the vehicle, and she did not flee the scene of the accident."

The Des Moines Register notes, "The Ramaswamy campaign blamed the collision on protesters who they said were angry about Ramaswamy's remarks on aid for Ukraine, saying they yelled and swore at the presidential candidate before jumping into a vehicle, ramming the campaign car and speeding off…. But that's not what really happened, according to the Grinnell Police Department's investigation."
