During his multi-country trip to the Middle East, President Donald Trump visited the United Arab Emirates after stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Trump's tone on the Middle East, according to some users of X, formerly Twitter, has changed considerably from what it was during his first presidency and during his 2016 campaign.
On this visit, Trump said of Qatar, "We are gonna protect this country. It's a very special place with a special royal family…. It's great people and they're gonna be protected by the United States."

But the Washington Post's Aaron Blake is pointing out how much of a departure that is from the Trump of 2016.
Blake notes that in 2016, Trump said, "Saudi Arabia was making a billion dollars a day, and we protect them for nothing. It's gonna all change folks. It's gonna all change."
Trump's Middle East visit and change of tone is generating some discussion on X.
The conservative group Republicans Against Trump, tweeting Trump's comments on Qatar, posted, "So much for 'America First.' Go ahead, MAGA — defend this. We’ll wait."

The Penn Capitol Star's Nick Field tweeted, "To be fair, it did change. Saudi Arabia used to pay nothing in bribes to the US for protection, now they pay a lot to bribe Trump and Company."
New York City-based X user Dominic Favazzo tweeted, "He would have slobbered all over Bin Laden."
