'Time to start Project 2025: MAGA cheers far-right plan Trump distanced himself from

During his 2024 campaign, Donald Trump made a concerted effort to distance himself from Project 2025 — the Heritage Foundation's controversial, far-right 920-page blueprint for a second Trump Administration.

Trump obviously viewed Project 2025 as a political liability, claiming that he had "nothing to do" with it and knew nothing about it. But Trump's critics, including Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, were quick to point out that Project 2025's architects included many of his close allies.

In fact, Harris' website included an entire section describing Project 2025 and Trump's connection to it.

Now that 2025 has arrived, Newsweek's Jasmine Laws reports, some Trump supporters on X, formerly Twitter, are calling for Project 2025 to be implemented.

On New Year's Day, Eric Daugherty, assistant news director for Florida's Voice tweeted, "Project 2025 has just begun."

Another far-right media figure, Gunther Eagleman, posted, Did Project 2025 just start?"

MAGA supporter @jacktronprime declared, "Time to start Project 2025.

The West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women, however, did not welcome Project 2025's arrival on New Year's Day.

The group tweeted, "ICYF: 'Most recently, the Trump administration relied heavily on Heritage's 'Mandate' for policy guidance, embracing nearly two-thirds of Heritage's proposals within just one year in office.'"

Newsweek's Laws notes, "While Trump has denied any associations with the project on multiple occasions, Democrats pushed back on this, saying many of the President-elect's former aides are leading the project. More recently, following his victory in the election, Trump has praised parts of the project, and experts told Newsweek they believed he could bring in three of the plan's policies: dismantling federal bureaucracy, sharply restricting immigration, and taking a tougher stance with China.
