Trump ally who was reportedly inside Capitol on Jan. 6 now working with transition team

Pete Marocco, a Donald Trump appointee who was hired for the U.S. Agency for International Development in July 2020, was reportedly inside the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 (according to D Magazine).

Now, according to Politico's Daniel Lippman, Marocco is working with President-elect Trump's transition team — and is dealing with national security matters.

Lippman, on Monday, December 9, tweeted, "SCOOP: Pete Marocco, a former Trump admin. official who was reportedly caught on camera inside the Capitol on Jan. 6, is now working with Trump’s transition team on national security personnel matters, three people familiar with the situation told me."

According to Politico Playbook, the "online sleuth group Sedition Hunters…. identified Marocco and his wife Merritt's alleged presence inside and outside the Capitol on January 6, using social media posts, video analysis and facial recognition software."

Lippman reports, "Marocco, who drew internal fire when he worked in numerous agencies in the Trump Administration and more recently was a conservative activist in Dallas, has been seen at the transition's Florida headquarters working on hiring — including for the State Department, according to two of the people who saw him. One of the people said he was interviewing candidates this week."

Lippman notes that neither Marocco nor his wife have been charged with anything in connection with the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol Building.

Prior to the International Development post in 2020, Marocco served as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for African affairs (a position he was hired for in 2019).
