Conservative attorney and activist George Conway marveled that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has to be told not to include his spouse and friends in top secret military correspondence.

“It is just absolutely crazy. … Do you need the memo? Do you need to see the memo, ‘don't text war plans to your friends?’” Conway demanded of MSNBC host Michael Steele while discussing Hegseth’s second notable blunder sharing classified discussions.

This comes as the secretary is again embroiled in scandal over sharing military operational details in a group chat with his attorney and wife as military operations played out in real time. The White House has not confirmed to journalists if Hegseth’s wife, former Fox News producer Jennifer Rauchet, has security clearance to receive tactical military information.

This new controversy involving Hegseth and his family members and attorney is different from Hegseth’s earlier Signal chat snafu that accidentally included a journalist.

Conway dragged Hegseth and the Trump administration’s hypocrisy for using Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server to send government-related emails as a cudgel in earlier elections.

“But her emails, right? … [T]his is this is the first rule of Trumpism, or one of the first rules. The first rule of Trumpism is ‘just lie your a-s off.’ Second rule is ‘the rules apply to thee and not to me.’ And that's the way they all operate,” Conway said. “Hypocrisy doesn't bother them, and if they get caught, they blame the people who caught them, and that's why [Hegseth] is going out there attacking the media about unsourced stories.”

Hegseth ranted against the media over the weekend, calling them “hoaxsters."

"This is what the media does," Hegseth said. "They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees, and then they try to slash and burn people and ruin their reputations."

The White House is rumored to have begun the process of finding Hegseth's replacement, according to anonymous sources, but Trump told reporters at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll that, “he is doing a great job.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also told reporters the president “stands strongly behind” Hegseth.
