'Wtf is he doing?': Twitter explodes at Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for letting Donald Trump grand jury expire

A grand jury in New York that has been reviewing evidence in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's criminal investigation into the Trump Organization's alleged tax and bank fraud schemes will not be renewed after it expires this week, CNN reported on Wednesday.

Bragg has faced an upswelling of public scrutiny over his handling of the city's probe into former President Donald Trump's sketchy business practices ever since two of his top prosecutors abruptly resigned earlier this year.

One of them, Mark Pomerantz, wrote after he quit that there is "evidence sufficient to establish Mr. Trump's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt" and that "I also do not believe that suspending the investigation pending future developments will lead to a stronger case or dispel your reluctance to bring charges."

He added that "I and others believe that your decision not to authorize prosecution now will doom any future prospects that Mr. Trump will be prosecuted for the criminal conduct we have been investigating," referring to Bragg's handling of the case.

According to what sources told CNN, however, Bragg has been "skeptical about prosecutors' ability to prove Trump's intent" to defraud financial institutions and the government.

Meanwhile, New York State Attorney General Letitia James is conducting a civil investigation into the matter. On Monday, James successfully petitioned to have Trump held in contempt for refusing to comply with subpoenas. He now faces fines of $10,000 per day.

Given the voluminous evidence that has already been presented to the public implicating Trump and his associates in wrongdoing, outrage flooded social media.

The overwhelming opinion on Twitter is that Trump – as he always has – is going to get away with breaking the law.

There was also widespread ire directed at Bragg, whose reputation has taken a major hit from his failure to hold Trump accountable.
