'Much worse': Ex-Pence aide warns women to expect a 'hostile environment' in Trump’s second admin

Although Olivia Troye is a conservative Republican who served as a national security aide to former Vice President Mike Pence, she became highly critical of Donald Trump and left the Trump White House in August 2020.

Troye was among the GOP speakers at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, and she openly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.

Harris narrowly lost to President-elect Trump, trailing him by roughly 1.5 or 1.6 percent in the popular vote count (according to Cook Political Report's vote tracker). And Troye was among the anti-Trump Republicans who was disappointed by the election results.

Now, with Trump on his way back to the White House, Troye is warning that women in Trump's second administration will face a "hostile environment" — more so than during his first term as president.

In a November 21 post on SubStack, Troye warned, "I'm not going to lie to you. No matter who you are, you are entering a hostile environment. I was fortunate — Mike Pence was a decent, respectful island in Trump's sea of contempt. It will be much, much worse this time."

Troye stressed that women who work in the second Trump White House can expect to find a strong "bro" culture.

"It will be an intimidating environment," Troye predicted, "but stay true to your values, even when it is uncomfortable or unpopular. Remember, you have only yourself to face in the mirror every day."

According to Troye, women in will find a "chauvinistic male-dominated culture" in Trump's second administration "will be exacerbated by the presence of Elon Musk, JD Vance, Donald Trump Jr., Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, and other 'bros' in positions of authority or influence."

Former Rep. Gaetz (R-Florida) was Trump's pick for U.S. attorney general. But Gaetz withdrew from consideration, and Trump promptly nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for the position.
