AOC and MTG have found some rare 'common ground'

Politically, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) are polar opposites 95 percent of the time.

AOC is a self-described "democratic socialist" from the Bronx and a close ally of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont). Greene is a far-right MAGA conspiracy theorist and a Donald Trump loyalist known for her Christian nationalist views and her over-the-top theatrics.

But according to Guardian reporter Amy Remeikis, AOC and MTG have found some rare "common ground": a desire to free Queensland, Australia-born WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Remeikis reports, "The pair are among 16 members of the U.S. Congress who have written directly to President Joe Biden urging the United States to drop its extradition attempts against Assange and halt any prosecutorial proceedings immediately. The group warns continuing the pursuit of Assange risks America's bilateral relationship with Australia."

Assange, Remeikis notes, "remains in Belmarsh Prison in London as he fights a U.S. attempt to extradite him to face charges, including under the Espionage Act."

The bipartisan group of 16 lawmakers, in their letter, told Biden, "It is the duty of journalists to seek out sources, including documentary evidence, in order to report to the public on the activities of the government."
