The North Carolina Republican Party has voted to censure United States Senator Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina) over "blatant violations of our party platform," WRAL News reported on Saturday.
The right-wing delegation explained that "the dissatisfaction started building several years ago, when Tillis initially opposed then-President Donald Trump' plan to shift millions of dollars from military construction projects toward building a wall along the Mexican border. Tillis eventually changed his position and supported Trump’s plan, but conservatives never forgot his initial stance."
GOP officials were far more upset, however, over "Tillis' work on the Respect For Marriage Act last year, which codified legal protections for same-sex marriage—something the GOP officially opposes in both the national and state party platforms," according to State Representative Mark Brody (R-55th District).

Brody further noted that the move was a culmination of intraparty dissatisfaction with Tillis.
He said that "Senator Tillis has a history of walking right on the edge of angering Republicans" and that "this is the one where he finally stepped over."
