Nikki Haley, a former United States ambassador to the United Nations and ex-Republican governor of South Carolina, will formally declare her candidacy for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination on February 15th.
"According to an invitaTtion soon going out to her backers, Haley’s advertised 'special announcement' will come Feb. 15 at The Shed at the Charleston Visitor Center, a downtown gathering spot that could draw hundreds of supporters into the heart of the city’s tourism district," Charleston-based newspaper The Post and Courier reported late Tuesday night, noting that "the confirmation she is entering the race came Jan. 31 from a member of Haley’s inner circle."
Haley has been open about her White House ambitions in recent months.

"The survival of America matters, and it's bigger than one person. And when you're looking at the future of America, I think it's time for new generational change. I don't think you need to be 80 years old to go be a leader in DC. I think we need a young generation to come and step up and really start fixing things," Haley told Fox News on January 28th. “It’s time for new leadership. And it’s time to take our country back. America is worth the fight — and we’re just getting started.”
Haley added that “we need to go in a new direction. And can I be that leader? Yes. I think I can be that leader.”
In July 2022, Haley tweeted that "if this president signs any sort of deal, I’ll make you a promise… The next President will shred it – on her first day in office," in reference to President Joe Biden's efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Yet Haley's intentions mark a reversal from a pledge she made in April 2021 that she would not challenge Donald Trump – under whom she served as UN ambassador – if he chose to seek reelection.

But Trump, who launched his 2024 bid after the November midterm elections is apparently fine with Haley mounting her own challenge.
“I talked to her for a little while. I said, ‘Look, you know, go by your heart if you want to run,’” Trump told reporters in South Carolina. “She called me and said she’d like to consider it, and I said you should do it.”
