GOP incumbent can’t vote in district he’s running vying for reelection: report

US Rep. Nicholas LaLota (R-NY) doesn't live in the district he's vying for reelection, according to a Wednesday Daily Beast report.

According to The New York Times, LaLota is "a first-term Republican," who "handily won this Eastern Long Island seat two years ago and is favored to win re-election. Though his district includes the Hamptons and Democratic-leaning suburbs, it has followed much of Long Island sharply right over concerns about immigration, crime and rising living costs."

Punchbowl News noted that the day before Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday, October 27, the former president "and House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik held a tele-rally for Empire State Republicans in battleground seats," including LaLota.

"No, I can’t vote in this election," the Beast reports the GOP incumbent said "in a video taken at a candidate forum" earlier this month.

"But 170,000 people voted for me two years ago."

The Times notes, "Democrats have managed to make the race competitive largely based on the strength of their candidate, John Avlon. A moderate former CNN anchor, Mr. Avlon has raised huge sums of money and shown himself to be an unusually adept messenger."
