Newly Released Kavanaugh Emails from Bush Administration Shed New Light on Possible Perjury

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) remains incredulous at the fact that Brett Kavanaugh claims ignorance and innocence at being the recipient of stolen emails while he was in the George W. Bush White House. Those emails, stolen from Leahy and other Judiciary Democrats, included information and strategies they were using to combat some of Bush's most extreme far-right judicial nominees. Kavanaugh spent a lot of time playing dumb, eventually insisting that he didn't know the information he was getting was stolen.

Now some of the emails from that time have finally been released, including one from a Senate Republican staffer to Kavanaugh with the subject line "spying." Subtle, eh? The email begins "I have a friend who is a mole for us on the left. "It" just called to tell me the following news. …" No, that's not a clue at all that this is stolen, pilfered, larcenous information. Not at all.

This is where Kavanaugh's previous potential perjury—in his confirmation hearing to his current seat on the D.C. Circuit—meets his right-now perjury. In yesterday's hearing, Leahy said "I'm concerned because there is evidence that Mr. Miranda provided you with materials that were stolen from me. And that would contradict your prior testimony." And Kavanaugh's continuing denial that he was aware that this material was stolen means he's still lying. Either that or he has such a bad memory as to be impaired in a way that disqualifies him for the Supreme Court. But I'm going to go with him lying. Because that's absolutely clear. 

There are even more documents that are being hidden that we can now be pretty certain are covering up Kavanaugh’s perjury then and now. Democrats both have to keep pushing for the tens of thousands that haven’t been released, and to release those that Grassley has told them they can’t show to the public.
