New Hampshire primary results are in: Trump clinches victory

Former President Donald Trump has won the first in the nation Republican primary in New Hampshire, defeating former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, reported the Associated Press and the Wall Street Journal.

This was the second contest of the 2024 cycle, following Trump's win in the Iowa Republican caucuses earlier this month.

The New Hampshire contest was closely watched, as Haley, a onetime ally of the former president, is the only major opponent remaining to Trump gaining the Republican nomination for a third straight presidential cycle.

Both Trump and Haley went all in on this race, with Haley determined to stake out a continuing two-person race, and Trump, who brought several of his former primary rivals to stump for him in the final days, eager to end the contest and pivot to the general election against President Joe Biden.

Assuming both candidates stay in, the next major race in which both Trump and Haley are scheduled to compete is South Carolina, which is Haley's home state.

Michigan will follow that contest, before the "Super Tuesday" primaries held in early March.
