'She’s clearly unwell': Ex-Nancy Mace staffers push back against 'sabotage' claims

Back in early February, the Daily Beast's Reese Gorman reported that Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) had experienced considerable turnover in her office — including the departure of "nine staffers in the span of a few short months." And some of them described her office as a "toxic" work environment."

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Mace is claiming she was "sabotaged" by former aides.

The Daily Mail's Morgan Freeman reports that Mace "says the departed staffers mismanaged $1million, hacked her phone, spied on medical records, and even submerged electronic devices in water and deleted files to cover their tracks." According to Freeman, Mace "claims they even went as far snooping on her children's calendars and would monitor doctor appointments."

Mace told the Daily Mail, "Literally, they could see where I was at all times. They could see my kids' calendars, my doctors' appointments, my medical information.' The stories I have from some of my former staff are horrific, and were a massive invasion of my privacy."

But Capitol Hill sources interviewed by the Daily Mail have a very different version of events in Mace's office.

A former staffer, quoted anonymously, told the Mail, "She had a personal calendar, a political calendar, and official calendar. All three of those calendars were managed and shared with senior staff so that we could go about the daily operations. No one hacked her accounts. She set them all up."

The ex-staffer continued, "She routinely would try to revoke access, be like 'You can no longer see my calendar' for a couple of weeks. And you know what? We couldn't do our jobs."

Another former Mace staffer told the Mail, "This seems to be stemming from paranoia and trust issues. She's clearly unwell, and I hope she gets help. Everything the staff had access to was granted by her."

That ex-staffer isn't the only person who has used the words "get help" in connection with Mace.

In a February 13 post on X, formerly Twitter, Gorman quoted former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) as saying of Mace, "I just hope she gets help to straighten out her life. I mean, she she's got a lot of challenges. No one will stay working for her."

Mace is among the House Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy as speaker in 2023.
