MAGA congressman flees press conference over family member's scandalous ties

On Thursday in rural Georgia, MAGA-oriented Representative and Senate candidate Mike Collins (R-GA) ended a press conference “abruptly” when questioned about his son-in-law’s antisemitic social media posts. Not only did he end the event out of nowhere, but he attempted to shift the focus onto his midterm opponent, Georgia’s Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff.

“We fully addressed that,” said Collins when questioned about his son-in-law. “But Jon Ossoff refuses to disavow these Democrat socialist movements in our country.” He added, without addressing the issue. “Jon Ossoff should answer for voting for men being in women’s locker rooms,” going on to say the Senator should also answer for inflation, high prices, and supporting “anti-Israel extremists.”

“These aren’t Georgia values, ya’ll,” Collins declared, saying he would answer one last question before suddenly thanking the crowd and walking away.

Earlier in the month, it was reported by CNN that Collins’ son-in-law, David Alan Scheer II, is a “a pro-White nationalist and social media influencer with a track record of sharing antisemitic material and hateful imagery in comments across the internet. Scheer, who is married to Collins’ daughter, Summer, is featured in family photographs on Collins’ campaign website and social media. He attended Collins’ Senate primary election-night victory party and appears to have helped produce promotional work for Collins’ trucking company. Scheer is registered to vote at a Collins-owned property adjacent to the congressman’s large home in Georgia.”

According to CNN, “On Instagram, Scheer recently shared multiple posts promoting Patriot Front, the White supremacist hate group that descended on Washington, DC, over July 4th weekend. He has amassed more than 1.5 million followers across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and Telegram by posting about fitness, masculinity and Christianity. On those same platforms, Scheer has promoted White nationalist ideology, spread antisemitic conspiracy theories, called for Muslims to be deported and shared an antisemitic infographic targeting Jews that he said his wife (Collins’ daughter) made.”

What’s more, “on a podcast from last November, Scheer warned that White people were being driven toward extinction and said restoring an America populated by people of White European descent would require ‘clearing our land of other people.’”

Collins — a staunch Trump ally — “has faced repeated criticism for his associations with far-right and extremist figures.” CNN went on to detail further ties between Collins and Scheer, as well as an array of other far-right figures. The Representative has largely dodged answering questions about his son-in-law, and Ossoff has called for further information about Collins’ extremist ties.
