After weeks of infighting, the Michigan GOP has officially removed election denying Republican Party Chair Kristina Karamo following less than a year of leadership, Politico reports.
Last month, The Detroit Free Press reported state Republicans were "so determined to remove Karamo" that they has been "considering a change to their own bylaws that lowers the threshold for removing a chairperson from a 75% vote of the state committee to just a two-thirds vote."
Additionally, in December, The New York Times reported under the former President Donald Trump ally's "leadership, the party has been driven into more than $620,000 of debt heading into the 2024 general election in a state whose electoral votes has played a deciding role in the last two consecutive presidential elections."

According to Politico, a Republican National Committee (RNC) official said in a Thursday, February 14 statement, "The committee on contests ruled that it is their belief that Karamo was removed as chair, and it was recommended to the RNC executive committee to ratify [Pete] Hoekstra as chair. The Executive Committee took action today to unanimously ratify Hoekstra as an RNC member as chair."
The news outlet reports Hoekstra commented, "It is time for the former Chair who was properly removed in accordance with the MIGOP bylaws to end her misinformation campaign. She should join the fight to re-elect Donald Trump rather than dividing this Party."
