Journalist/author Michael Wolff infuriated President Donald Trump and his MAGA allies when his book, "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," was released in early 2018. MAGA Republicans vehemently objected to his depiction of Trump's first presidency as wildly chaotic, and in 2025, Wolff is still angering MAGA — including First Lady Melania Trump.
Wolff, Mediaite's David Gilmour reports, is alleging that Melania Trump is trying to silence his reporting on her alleged ties to the late Jeffrey Epstein.
In a civil lawsuit filed with the New York State Supreme Court on Tuesday, October 21, Wolff alleges that the first lady threatened to file a $1 billion lawsuit against him "for the sole purpose of harassing, intimidating, punishing or otherwise maliciously inhibiting" his reporting. And Wolff, who appeared in court the following day, is, according to Gilmour, vowing to put members of the Trump family "under oath" and open a "dark curtain."
"The suit includes a letter from Trump's attorney, Alejandro Brito, demanding Wolff retract comments made to The Daily Beast and its podcast, apologize, and make 'a monetary proposal to Mrs. Trump to ameliorate the harm that you have caused,'" Gilmour reports. "In a video posted to Instagram, Wolff said he had 'extensively interviewed Jeffrey Epstein, not least of all about his relationship with Donald Trump,' and had spoken publicly about Epstein's remarks concerning both President Donald Trump and his wife. Wolff said he received notice 'several days ago' that the first lady's lawyers intended to sue him for a billion dollars, describing the threat as part of a broader pattern of 'SLAPP suits' meant to 'intimidate people from talking about this exact subject."
In the Instagram video, which Mediaite reposted, Wolff said, "I can't live like that. To be perfectly honest, I'd like nothing better than to get Donald Trump and Melania Trump under oath in front of a court reporter and actually find out all of the details of their relationship with Epstein."
The journalist/author added that he hopes to "finally open this dark curtain and find out what Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and Jeffrey Epstein were doing together."
