Michael Cohen warns Trump will rule 'like the Führer' thanks to SCOTUS: 'No one will be safe'
08 July 2024
When Michael Cohen — former President Donald Trump's ex-personal attorney and fixer — was interviewed by ITV in the U.K. in November 2023, he told the British media outlet that if Trump wins the 2024 election, he will "absolutely" seek political asylum in another country. Cohen told ITV that he would literally fear for his life during a second Trump term.
That interview took place roughly six months before Cohen testified in Trump's hush money/falsified business records trial and about roughly seven and one-half months before the U.S. Supreme Court's controversial 6-3 immunity ruling in Trump v. the United States — a ruling that, according to Cohen, has made Trump even more dangerous.
During an early July interview with the Daily Beast, Cohen warned, "He'll run the country like a king, like a supreme leader, like a monarch, like a dictator, like the Führer…. If reelected in November, in light of the Supreme Court ruling, his worst impulses will be magnified a hundredfold. The depth of Donald's actions will not be merely isolated to critics, political enemies and the like."

Cohen continued, "The uber-wealthy like the Elon Musks, Jeff Bezos, Zuckerbergs will see consequences as well, as Donald cares for no one or anything other than the almighty dollar. Members of the Supreme Court and federal judges will similarly become neutered as Donald fulfills his promise to dismantle our tripartite system of government, stripping the legislative and judicial branches of their coequal power and conferring all power to the executive branch; meaning himself….. No one will be safe."
Cohen is hardly the only one who has thought about leaving the United States in order to avoid acts of retaliation if Trump wins in November.
During a "This American Life" segment aired on some National Public Radio (NPR) stations in early June, three interviewees expressed their worries that Trump would target them for retaliation during a second term: Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman (who testified against Trump during his first impeachment), former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, and The Lincoln Project's Fred Wellman. Both Wellman and Grisham said they have been looking at possible countries to move to; Vindman is determined to stick it out in the U.S., but his wife Rachel Vindman is urging him to consider leaving the country if Trump returns to the White House.
During the Daily Beast interview, Cohen warned that the U.S. Supreme Court itself will suffer under its own Trump v. the United States ruling.
