GOP congressman steps up attacks — including one McCarthy warned against

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) and former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) are among the Donald Trump supporters who have urged fellow Republicans to exercise caution in the way they criticize presumptive Democratic presidential Kamala Harris.

But some Republicans are jumping right in with their attacks.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tennessee), according to Politico and the Nashville Tennessean, has announced plans for an impeachment resolution against Harris.

Meanwhile, Fox News reports that Ogles, in a letter, urged Harris to "immediately invoke the 25th Amendment" against President Joe Biden because of his "declining health."

In the letter, Ogles wrote, "We are in an unprecedented era in American history — at the behest of senior members of his own party, President Biden presumably approved the release of a statement this past Sunday removing himself from November's presidential contest. The Democrat-led pressure campaign to remove President Biden as the party's standard bearer, while highlighting the Left’s own dubious commitment to democracy, has left the United States with a powerless, lame duck Commander-in-Chief for the next six months."

McCarthy, however, has argued that Republican calls for Biden to resign are harmful to Trump's campaign — as Biden resigning would make Harris president right away and make her even more prominent.

The former House speaker told NBC News, "I would say, two attacks I've heard Republicans give that are totally stupid and dumb to do is the DEI attack, OK? The other attack that I would not do is saying that the president has to resign. That would be an advantage for Kamala."
