'Dog and pony show': Lawyer reveals Trump's singular goal with Ghislaine Maxwell interview

Deputy attorney general Todd Blanche — the Justice Department's (DOJ) second-in-command — met with convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell at a U.S. attorney’s office in Tallahassee, Florida on Thursday to discuss the Jeffrey Epstein case. Experts on convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s trafficking network voiced deep skepticism about Maxwell’s motives and questioned the integrity of the meeting.

Barry Levine, who authored a detailed exposé on Epstein and Maxwell, offered a blunt assessment of her intentions during a Thursday evening segment on CNN.

“It is mind-blowing that they are sitting down with her, even though, yes, she knows all the information," Levine said. "Will she ever tell the truth? I don't think so."

He continued: "She's only in this to cut a deal for herself.”

Levine emphasized that Maxwell’s history of deceit and manipulation in Epstein's human trafficking ring, with victims treated as “trash” and groomed for exploitation, makes her an untrustworthy witness.

Attorney Spencer Kuvin, who represented nine clients who made claims against Epstein, called Blanche's interview "an attempt to influence a key witness that has information, more so, frankly, than Epstein about what was going on for many years."

He continued: "A number of my clients identified Miss Maxwell as the one that organized all of the get-togethers and the women that were being brought to the home, the young girls that were being brought over from high schools here in Palm Beach County. Those were organized by Ghislaine Maxwell."

On the same panel, criminal defense attorney Stacey Schneider described the entire proceeding as a staged spectacle, saying, “I think this entire scenario is a dog and pony show to show off.”

Schneider argued that the Trump administration's singular goal appears to be extracting a short statement absolving Maxwell of any client list. She argued that the effort is less about uncovering truth and more about political optics, serving as a distraction from prior controversies involving the Trump administration and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

"If they can get someone who's already serving a 20‑year sentence to just utter a couple of words… it gives a much greater impression," she told host Erin Burnett.

Schneider further said that the real evidence lies with the FBI and Department of Justice, who already possess Maxwell’s files; the public display of her testimony is little more than theater.
