'MAGA will turn on you': Read the texts Matt Gaetz’s mom sent to scold him over Trump criticism

Miami New Times reports a viral TikTok video showing former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) arguing with his mom on an airplane, with Mom ordering Gaetz to get in line with Trump’s missile strikes in Iran.

“Don’t be criticizing the President or his actions … ,” Mom wrote. “MAGA will turn on you. You will lose viewership.”

In the video, Mom also warned him that his political and legal career were both over, so he should focus on protecting his job as an entertainer.

“Your days in Congress are over, practice on law? Let’s not mess up the media gig. The president has been a very good friend to you. He hates betrayal. Be smart, not stubborn,” said Mom, referring to Gaetz’ show on One America News Network, which critics describe as an “amateurish far-right TV outlet best known for promoting Trump’s 2020 election lies.”

According to the chat thread, Gaetz argued in response that, “Iran has been three months away from nukes since 1992.”

“They had surrendered their ICBM program in 2003. They have done no [research and development] on reentry … These are facts. By your logic, should we bomb North Korea. Also, wasn’t Saddam on his way to getting nukes? How did that turn out?” Gaetz wrote.

Mom replied that Gaetz must “identify with the Obama presidency," adding: "Let’s just send more billions and have no sanctions …” — to which Gaetz replied, “Obama doubled down on the Afghanistan war. He was way more pro-war than Trump.”

But “Mom” appeared unmoved, warning “This is Trump’s Reagan moment. I hope it works out. I feel safer.”

The sneak-scroll video carried a host of other revelations from Gaetz, namely that “Clinton had a good Iran policy,” and “Reagan showed restraint after Iranians killed some Americans.”

He added that he’d “reminded Trump” of these things “last week.”

Additionally Gaetz slammed people who “cheer-led the Iraq war because they liked Bush,” saying “Those people have blood on their hands.”

Gaetz, who has survived investigations that he paid for sex with a minor, ended the text with an assurance to his “Mom” that he would be okay in the long term.

“Lol. I’ll move to my fully paid for condo in paradise,” Gaetz wrote.

Gaetz later confirmed the video with a June 24 post on X. "Please let this be a reminder to everyone to CALL YOUR MOTHER! (and maybe get a screen protector)."
