Marjorie Taylor Greene mocked for decrying Super Bowl’s 'wokeness' while hyping BLM-supporter Chris Stapleton

Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene faced a swarm of backlash from Twitter users for recognizing country singer Chris Stapleton's "beautiful" Super Bowl performance of the Star Spangled Banner, while suggesting "the rest" of the pre-game kickoff was too "woke" for her liking, The Independent reports.

Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph sangLift Every Voice and Sing, also known as the Black national anthem, and an "historic" all womens pilot team performed a United States Navy flyover, according to The Independent, all before Stapleton's performance.

The MAGA Congresswoman tweeted, "Chris Stapleton just sang the most beautiful national anthem at the Super Bowl. But we could have gone without the rest of the wokeness."

Twitter users slammed Greene's evident ignorance around the country star's political background.

Following the 25 May 2020 murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, Mr Stapleton appeared on CBS This Morning, saying "do I think Black lives matter? Absolutely ... I don’t know how you could think they don’t."

During the interview, he continued, "There’s a very broad awakening that’s come about and it’s time for me to listen. It’s time for other folks to listen. The country that I thought we were living in was a myth."

Twitter user @ronmexicuh wrote, "I guess you don’t go broke when you go woke. MTG proves that the issue isn’t the message, it’s the messenger. All she sees is a white man singing country music, a deeper dive shows past allyship against MTG’s own hate," — along with a screenshot of a September 2020 Fox News headline displaying Stapleton's Black Lives Matter (BLM) support.

Morgan Ross (@Morgan_C_Ross) tweeted a Yahoo article on Stapleton's BLM activism, writing "You supporting the BLM chap is actually pretty positive. Good on ya!"

Users also noted the racist undertone in the congresswoman's tweet.

Missouri Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) tweeted, "Tell us more about your anti-blackness…"

NFL alum @Kevin_Aldridge added, "So in MAGA terms all the black performers shouldn’t have performed?!?!"

Author John Pavlovitz (@johnpavlovitz) wrote,"Translation: 'I love that white guy and the song glorifying slavery, but for the rest of the diverse humanity wanting to be treated like actual human beings... I could have gone without that.'"
