'NY courts are fed up': Legal experts mock Trump after hush money trial delay rejection

Judge Lizbeth Gonzalez on Monday, April 8 denied former President Donald Trump a motion to delay his upcoming New York hush money trial, according to Law360.

The trial is set to begin on April 15.

Law 360 reporter Frank Runyeon shared the one-sentence ruling, which reads, "Defendant's application for a stay of trial... pending the determination of defendant's motion for change of venue, is denied."

The former president faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents related to hush money payments he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels through former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

According to ABC7 Chicago, "In a brief argument before the Appellate Division First Department, the defense suggested that too many people in Manhattan have a negative opinion of Trump."

Former FBI counsel and legal analyst Andrew Weissmann said, "The NY Courts are fed up - Trump trial in a week. The US Supreme Court shd take note and see how it’s done to vindicate our right to a public trial."

Conservative lawyer George Conway wrote, "The Appellate Division issued this order so quickly the judges didn’t even have time to stop laughing."

LA Times Senior Legal Affairs columnist Harry Litman tweeted, "Appellate division judge denies Trump attempt to delay trial in one sentence unsigned order. Doesn't even refer it to a panel. He is flailing and embarrassing himself within the legal system."
